S.C. Pannell – Tempranillo Touriga Nacional

Steve and his wife Fiona founded S.C. Pannell in 2004, though his journey into winemaking began much earlier—growing up at Moss Wood in Margaret River, one of Australia’s most iconic boutique wineries.

He went on to work with leading producers including Wirra Wirra and Hardy’s Tintara, where he was Chief Red Winemaker from 1999 to 2003, alongside vintages at Domaine des Comtes Lafon (Burgundy), Château Mouton Rothschild (Bordeaux) and G.D. Vajra (Barolo).

S.C. Pannell focuses on McLaren Vale and its ability to produce dry-grown, environmentally sustainable wines. The philosophy is simple—“wines that are grown, not made”—resulting in wines that are expressive, balanced and made to be enjoyed with food.

A blend of 57% Tempranillo and 43% Touriga Nacional from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek, this is a rich yet structured wine. Aromas of black and dried cherry lead into layers of liquorice, spice, earth and savoury notes. The palate is medium to full-bodied, driven by ripe black fruit, with firm, chewy tannins and a dry, slightly grippy finish. Energetic acidity carries through a long, robust aftertaste.
