Orange wine is not made from oranges but is actually a style of white wine made by leaving the grape skins in contact with the juice during fermentation, much like how red wine is made.
This extended skin contact gives the wine its distinctive amber or orange hue, along with a richer, more textured character than conventional white wine, with flavours of dried apricot, honey, nuts, and tea, as well as grippy tannins rarely found in whites.
It's an ancient winemaking technique enjoying a modern revival, particularly popular among natural wine enthusiasts, with notable examples coming from Georgia, Slovenia, and Italy's Friuli region.
