Pinot Grigio (known as Pinot Gris in France) is a popular white wine grape that is a colour mutation of Pinot Noir, grown widely across northern Italy, Alsace, and New Zealand. The Italian style, which has made the variety globally famous, tends to be light, crisp, and refreshingly simple, with flavours of green apple, lemon, and white peach, making it an easy-drinking, crowd-pleasing choice. By contrast, the Alsatian Pinot Gris style is considerably richer and more full-bodied, with honeyed, spiced notes and a luscious texture that makes it almost unrecognisable as the same grape.
