Naran Johanniter is Pravis's traditional-method Extra Brut from Trentino. Johanniter is a disease-resistant (PiWi) grape variety, giving this sparkling wine an unusual grape story alongside a familiar production method. Citrus, delicate flowers and a lightly toasted accent make it a distinctive bottle for drinkers curious about new varieties in a properly dry style.

  • Aromas: Lemon and lime peel, delicate flowers and wild fruit, with toasted almond and a waxy hint adding complexity to the fragrance.
  • Palate: Clean and persistent, with gentle bubbles and balanced acidity. The aromatic nose gives way to a notably dry palate, keeping the finish refreshing.
  • Style: An Extra Brut traditional-method sparkling wine from an uncommon grape, with fresh citrus and a restrained, lightly toasty character.
  • Winemaking: Controlled fermentation is followed by steel maturation and second fermentation in bottle. The winemaking includes about a year on the lees, then further resting after disgorgement before release.
  • Cellaring: A mature sparkling vintage: enjoy now if well stored.
  • Food Pairing: Oysters, fried prawns, smoked fish, savoury pastry or fresh cheese; its dry finish is especially useful with salty, crisp appetisers.

Want bubbles with a new story to tell? Johanniter makes Naran an interesting choice! Open it with a few savoury bites and explore a different grape without leaving the pleasure of traditional-method sparkling behind. Serve well chilled in a tulip-shaped wine glass so both the bubbles and the aromatic detail can show.

NB: PIWI (a German abbreviation*) refers to a group of special cross-breedvarieties. AKA - Eco-friendly viticulture without chemicals. "These were created by crossing European grape varieties and American fungus resistant varietals. Most of them still are known as hybrids or interspecific varietals and were first used in France from 1880 to 1935. The aim was to combine the good resistance to diseases and phylloxera of the American grape varieties with the high quality of European varietals. Unfortunately these new varietals were not able to survive on their own root. New cultures, which have been grown after 1950, are very complex, may have been created with Asian varietals and are the result of decades of crossings. They belong to the type Vitis vinifera because they are not to be distinguished taxonomically. An official examination in comparing different grape varieties has proven the high quality in wine production of Piwi varietals." For the full article click HERE.

Pravis

Between the Brenta Dolomites and Lake Garda, Pravis draws its character from Trentino’s Valle dei Laghi. Founded by Domenico, Gianni and Mario, the estate places the grower’s relationship with small vineyard plots at the centre of its work. The next generation, including Domenico’s daughters Giulia and Erika, contributes across the vineyard and cellar. Its diverse plantings include Nosiola, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc, Kerner, Schiava, Franconia and Pinot Nero, alongside varieties used for more substantial red blends.

Pravis combines that regional heritage with a keen interest in the future of viticulture. Its disease-resistant varieties, including Solaris, Souvignier Gris and Johanniter, offer a different route to wines from the mountain landscape. The underground cellar and use of gravity reflect an approach shaped by the surroundings, while traditional-method sparkling wine adds another dimension to the range. Fresh whites, characterful local reds and ambitious blends such as Fratagranda make this an estate worth exploring across styles. Pravis’s distinction lies in the meeting of family continuity, Trentino’s diverse grapes and a practical willingness to experiment.
