Parker Coonawarra Estate

Parker Coonawarra Estate was established in 1985 by John and Faye Parker, following John’s long-standing connection with the region. Today, the privately owned estate remains committed to his uncompromising standards, with a singular focus on expressing Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra’s famed Terra Rossa soils—widely regarded as the benchmark for classic Australian Cabernet.

The inaugural 1988 vintage of First Growth was an immediate success, winning the Penfold Hyland Trophy and being ranked among the top Bordeaux-style wines at the 1991 International Wine Challenge in London. It quickly cemented its place as one of Australia’s iconic premium wines.

Over the years, Parker Estate has continued to collect an impressive array of awards and accolades, maintaining a Five Star rating from James Halliday and achieving Langton’s Classification V for Excellence.

While the range has expanded to include Chardonnay, Shiraz and Merlot, Cabernet remains at the heart of the estate. First Growth sits at the pinnacle—showcasing the very best fruit from the vineyards and delivering a wine of structure, depth and enduring character.

Halliday Wine Companion (Erin Larkin) - 97 points

From the estate-owned Abbey vineyard. Left 35 days on skins, matured for 18 months in French oak (90% new). As true to Coonawarra for its structure, density and weight, as it is to cabernet for its cassis, blackberries and spice. This is voluminous, expansive, and eminently classy, with a pedigree of fruit that veritably floods the palate with flavour. It endures long into the finish, telling us what we need to know about its capacity for ageing. The tannins too are expertly crafted, countersunk into the fruit, and at no point intrusive to the experience
