The Mount Mary Pinot Noir is an elegant, highly fragrant, and deeply complex medium-bodied red wine from the slopes of the Yarra Valley, Victoria. Crafted by winemaker Sam Middleton, it is a masterclass in varietal purity and structural finesse, showcasing the stunning detail and restraint that defines the estate's world-class cool-climate reputation.
  • Aromas: The nose is intensely perfumed, lifted, and complex, bursting with fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, and pomegranate, intricately layered with notes of star anise, whole-bunch herbal spice, violet florals, and a hint of forest floor.
  • Palate: The palate is medium-weighted, seamless, and exceptionally precise, delivering driving flavours of red currant, sour cherry, and spice, all perfectly framed by a fine line of racy acidity and silky, long, fine-grained tannins.
  • Style: A world-class, ultra-premium Pinot Noir that completely avoids heavy extraction or sweet fruit jamminess, focusing instead on structural harmony, light-footed energy, and incredible Old World poise.
  • Winemaking: The estate fruit is handled gently, incorporating a carefully managed percentage of whole bunches during wild yeast fermentation, followed by maturation for roughly 11 to 12 months in premium French oak barriques to layer in subtle spice and texture.
  • Cellaring: While its stunning aromatic lift and silky primary fruit make it highly alluring upon release, its flawless balance and tight structural core ensure it will cellar and evolve spectacular over 10 to 15-plus years.
  • Food Pairing: An outstanding match for delicate or savoury dishes, pairing beautifully with Peking duck pancakes, tea-smoked quail, pan-seared salmon, or a wild mushroom risotto.
This is a breathtaking, top-tier Pinot Noir focused entirely on liquid symmetry and a silky texture. It delivers a graceful mix of bright berries and subtle spice, while staying beautifully light on its feet from start to finish. It is the ultimate benchmark bottle to pour when you want to experience premium Australian cool-climate wine at its finest.

Halliday's Pinot Noir of the Year.

Destemmed and fermented with as many whole berries as possible. 15 months in French barriques (25% new). First year using Diam as opposed to natural cork. Bright purple. Youthful with complex aromas of wild strawberry, boysenberry, potpourri, star anise and a little Sichuan pepper, even. Even better on the palate where old vines and low yields have conspired (along with the winemaker, Sam Middleton) to produce a supremely textured, layered and flawlessly balanced wine. The tannins are silky and very persistent, and this will be worth both the money and time for those that still have some 10–20 years from now.
