The Koerner The Clare Red is a juicy, light-to-medium-bodied red blend that captures a more playful and energetic side of the Clare Valley, South Australia. Produced by Damon Koerner, this bright release turns traditional heavy regional styles on its head to deliver an expressive, vibrant wine built entirely around high-energy fruit and effortless, everyday drinkability.
  • Aromas: The nose is expressive and bright, bursting with fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, and plum, alongside pretty notes of violet and subtle dried kitchen herbs.
  • Palate: The palate is juicy and light on its feet, packed with crunchy red fruits and a touch of spice, balanced by a mouth-watering acidity and fine, smooth tannins.
  • Style: This is a progressive, highly smashable red blend that avoids heavy extraction to focus entirely on pure fruit freshness, bright energy, and easy drinkability.
  • Winemaking: A unique blend mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec, along with Grenache and Carignan, wild-fermented with some whole bunches and aged briefly in neutral vessels.
  • Cellaring: Built purposefully for immediate, youthful enjoyment while the primary fruit is at its peak, it is best drunk fresh or within 3 to 5 years.
  • Food Pairing: An incredibly versatile red to serve slightly chilled with wood-fired pizza, charcuterie boards, roast chicken, or casual backyard barbecues.

This is a totally refreshing, light-hearted red blend focused entirely on juicy fruit energy and effortless drinkability. It is crisp, light on its feet, and pairs beautifully with a quick 15-minute chill in the fridge, making it the ultimate bottle to crack open for a sunny afternoon gathering or a relaxed pizza night with friends.

Halliday Wine Companion (Cambell Mattinson) : 94 points

There's a confidence to this wine. It's firm, it's wild with intricate flavour, it's light but it's buoyant. Potpourri, peanuts, boysenberry, earth and sweet plum flavours all make appearances, though the truth is that every time you put this anywhere near your nose/mouth, you detect something different. In a word: it's joyous.

James Suckling : 93 points

The nose gives aromas of wild blackberries, mulberry bush, bay leaves, violets and mocha. The palate is medium-bodied with finely integrated tannins and a creamy texture. Delicious. Drink or hold.

Koerner Wines

Koerner Wine is a partnership between brothers Damon and Jonathan Koerner, focused on bringing a fresh perspective to the Clare Valley. Working primarily with fruit from their family vineyard in Watervale, they produce wines that reflect both tradition and a more contemporary edge.

Alongside classic Clare Valley varieties such as Riesling, Cabernet and Malbec, they explore alternative varietals that showcase a different side of this iconic region.

Guided by a simple philosophy—that great wine is made in the vineyard—their approach results in wines that are light, fresh, textured, and highly drinkable. A producer well worth watching.
