Kante's Malvasia Selezione comes from the limestone Carso near Trieste and receives the estate's patient, extended maturation. The aromatic grape develops beyond simple floral perfume, combining ripe orchard fruit with resinous, herbal and savoury detail. It is a substantial white for drinkers who enjoy both fragrance and the complexity of bottle age.
- Aromas: Ripe peach, apple and yellow flowers, followed by eucalyptus, resin, dried fruit and gently balsamic pine-like nuances.
- Palate: Full and layered, with lively acidity carrying the richer fruit. A long, savoury finish gives the wine definition and a strong presence alongside food.
- Style: A dry, mature selected Malvasia with aromatic complexity, substantial texture and freshness that balances its richer, developed character.
- Winemaking: The winemaking includes twelve months in old French oak, twenty-four months in steel and lengthy bottle maturation. The wine is released after a patient ageing sequence designed to develop its complexity.
- Cellaring: A mature white for drinking now. Potential for further development in bottle. If ageing further, store in a cool and dark location. Before opening stand upright to settle sediment, and taste before choosing gentle decanting or further aeration.
- Food Pairing: Roast chicken with herbs, pork, mushrooms or mature cheese; try it with a savoury dish that includes rosemary or roasted vegetables.
Malvasia with bottle age can be a wonderful discovery, and Kante gives it plenty of time to find its voice. Open this when you can linger over the glass and watch the fruit, herbs and resinous notes unfold. A white with real dinner-table presence. Serve cool in a generous glass, allowing time for the mature aromas and texture to unfold gradually.
Kante
In Prepotto, on the rocky Carso plateau near Trieste, Edi Kante has created a winery inseparable from its dramatic surroundings. This is a landscape of limestone, red earth, sea breezes and the powerful Bora wind, where growing vines demands both ingenuity and persistence. Vitovska and Malvasia give the collection a distinctly local identity, alongside Chardonnay and other varieties. Kante’s work is driven by a personal search for balance, with freshness, precision and the character of the Carso at the centre of the wines.
The cellar is part of that story: carved into the natural rock on several levels, it reaches around eighteen metres below ground, providing a setting for patient maturation and bottle ageing. Kante is particularly associated with whites that combine texture with acidity and savoury depth, inviting drinkers to explore how they develop over time. Traditional-method sparkling wines add another dimension. His artistic personality also extends to the labels. For lovers of distinctive northern Italian whites, Kante offers a memorable encounter between an individual winemaker and a demanding, deeply expressive landscape.
