The Kalleske Plenarius Viognier is a medium-bodied, complex, and strikingly textural "orange" wine from the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Grown on the family's certified organic and biodynamic estate, this unique skin-contact white offers a completely raw, unadulterated expression of Viognier that is naturally amber-bronze in colour.
  • Aromas: The nose is highly perfumed and exotic, bursting with ripe apricot, ginger, honeysuckle, and orange peel, alongside unique hints of fresh hops, marmalade, and dried fig.
  • Palate: The palate is dry, intense, and deeply textural, layering luscious stone fruits and vanilla with a distinctive, oily roundness that is balanced by fine, chalky skin tannins and a crisp citrus acidity.
  • Style: This is a bold, provocative, and highly complex orange wine that utilises the entire grape to trade sweet tropical flavours for a savoury, grippy, and multi-layered Old World texture.
  • Winemaking: Sourced from a single vineyard block, the fruit is wild-fermented entirely on its skins in open fermenters for roughly 9 to 10 days before maturing on lees in seasoned French oak hogsheads, bottled completely unfined, unfiltered, and with no added sulphites.
  • Cellaring: Designed to showcase its immediate, vibrant complexity and intriguing structure, this preservative-free amber wine is best enjoyed fresh within 18-24 months of release.
  • Food Pairing: An incredibly versatile food match that pairs beautifully with crispy-skinned salmon, spicy Asian cuisine, pork belly, Thai curries, or mature hard cheeses.
This is a seriously cool and intriguing bottle that completely redefines what Barossa white wine can be. By treating the Viognier grapes like a red wine on its skins, you get this amazing, waxy texture and ginger-spiced complexity that just keeps you coming back for another sip. It is a fantastic, thought-provoking drop to share with curious wine lovers over a spicy dinner or a long afternoon cheese board.

Kalleske

The Kalleske family have been farming the land near the Barossa Valley village of Greenock since 1853 — making them one of the region's most deeply rooted grape-growing families. Their reputation as growers is such that they were among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange, one of the world's most celebrated wines.

In 2002, seventh-generation brothers Troy and Tony took the next step — establishing the Kalleske winery and earning certification as both an organic and biodynamic producer. Their philosophy is one of genuine stewardship: not simply maintaining the land, but actively improving it for the generations that will follow.

Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a swift and well-deserved reputation for handcrafted wines of exceptional quality — the natural expression of over 170 years of farming the same Barossa soil.

"Among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange — a testament to over 170 years of Barossa farming."
