The Kalleske Moppa Shiraz is a full-bodied, deeply concentrated, and expressive red wine from the high-elevation Moppa sub-region of the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Crafted by the Kalleske family on their historic, fully certified organic and biodynamic estate, to deliver a polished twist on classic Barossa Shiraz.
- Aromas: The nose is lifted and fragrant, bursting with ripe plum, blueberry pie, and black liquorice, alongside hints of violet petals and dark chocolate spice.
- Palate: The palate is rich and plush, packed with blackberry and plum flavours over a backdrop of cocoa, balanced by smooth tannins and a seamless finish.
- Style: This is a bold yet beautifully poised Shiraz that balances robust regional power with a tiny splash of Viognier and Petit Verdot for aromatic freshness.
- Winemaking: Sourced from organic estate blocks, the fruit is wild-fermented in open fermenters, basket-pressed, and matured for a year in oak hogsheads.
- Cellaring: It is delicious and satisfying right now for its opulent fruit density, but it will comfortably cellar and evolve over the next 5 to 10 years.
- Food Pairing: It matches perfectly with charcoal-grilled steaks, slow-braised beef shins, gourmet sausages, or wood-fired pizzas with spicy salami.
Kalleske
The Kalleske family have been farming the land near the Barossa Valley village of Greenock since 1853 — making them one of the region's most deeply rooted grape-growing families. Their reputation as growers is such that they were among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange, one of the world's most celebrated wines.
In 2002, seventh-generation brothers Troy and Tony took the next step — establishing the Kalleske winery and earning certification as both an organic and biodynamic producer. Their philosophy is one of genuine stewardship: not simply maintaining the land, but actively improving it for the generations that will follow.
Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a swift and well-deserved reputation for handcrafted wines of exceptional quality — the natural expression of over 170 years of farming the same Barossa soil.
"Among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange — a testament to over 170 years of Barossa farming."
