The Kalleske Greenock Shiraz is a full-bodied, deeply concentrated, and complex red wine from the historic sub-region of Greenock in the Barossa Valley, South Australia. Crafted by the Kalleske family, this flagship release is sourced entirely from low-yielding, old estate vines. It is a benchmark expression of the region, designed to highlight the incredible fruit density, natural structural power, and deep, dark flavor profiles that have made this particular northwestern corner of the Barossa world-famous.
  • Aromas: The nose is intense and brooding, filled with rich blackberry, dark plum, and black liquorice, alongside complex notes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and sweet vanillin oak spice.
  • Palate: The palate is powerful and lavishly structured, packed with layers of sweet dark fruits and cocoa, balanced by a round, velvety mouthfeel and a firm backbone of fine, muscular tannins.
  • Style: This is a classic, flagship Barossa Shiraz that showcases immense structural power and depth, balancing rich regional weight with excellent balance and a long, warming finish.
  • Winemaking: Sourced entirely from the family's oldest blocks, the fruit is wild-fermented in traditional open fermenters, basket-pressed, and matured for two years in a mix of new and seasoned French and American oak hogsheads.
  • Cellaring: While it is incredibly rich and rewarding right now, its dense fruit core and powerful tannin framework mean it will cellar beautifully for 10 to 15 years.
  • Food Pairing: It is an exceptional match for serious, heavy dishes like a prime ribeye steak, slow-braised beef cheeks, roasted venison, or an aged, hard cheese platter.

An impressive, big-hitting Shiraz that gives you everything you want from a premium, old-vine Barossa red. It is packed with dark, rich berry and chocolate goodness, but it never feels clumsy because the oak and tannins hold everything together perfectly. It is the ultimate bottle to set aside for a special occasion or to open next to a slow-cooked winter roast with friends.

Shiraz sourced from a single vineyard on the western edge of Greenock Creek; destemmed and matured in French and American oak for 14 months. Them Kalleske lads know their way around the Western Barossa, I guess 150 years of continual family ownership of their farm does that. Classic Western Barossa fruit density and flow, studded with fine, ironstone tannins, baking spices, pure macerated plum and summer berry fruits and earth, finishing long and true to its plot of sandy loam, red clay and limestone. Lovely.

Kalleske

The Kalleske family have been farming the land near the Barossa Valley village of Greenock since 1853 — making them one of the region's most deeply rooted grape-growing families. Their reputation as growers is such that they were among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange, one of the world's most celebrated wines.

In 2002, seventh-generation brothers Troy and Tony took the next step — establishing the Kalleske winery and earning certification as both an organic and biodynamic producer. Their philosophy is one of genuine stewardship: not simply maintaining the land, but actively improving it for the generations that will follow.

Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a swift and well-deserved reputation for handcrafted wines of exceptional quality — the natural expression of over 170 years of farming the same Barossa soil.

"Among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange — a testament to over 170 years of Barossa farming."
