The 2024 Vickery Eden Valley Riesling is a premium, beautifully expressive white wine that honors the winemaking blueprint of the late John Vickery, widely regarded as the master of Australian Riesling. Sourced from two celebrated family-run vineyards (Schubert’s 1961 block and Mason’s Woodcarvers), this pristine release captures all the signature purity and zesty energy of a classic, dry Eden Valley vintage.

  • Aromas: Punchy aromatics of fresh lime, lemon sherbet, and green apple, layered with white flowers, bath salts, and a clean, wet-stone mineral edge.
  • Palate: Crisp and mouth-watering, packed with juicy citrus, grapefruit, and mandarin flavors riding over a focused, flinty mineral backbone.
  • Style: Bone-dry, vibrant, and incredibly refreshing, balancing a generous burst of fruit with a laser-sharp acid line and a long, clean finish.
  • Winemaking: Cool-fermented in stainless steel to lock in maximum freshness, with a small portion of pressings carefully included to add a touch of extra texture without bitterness.
  • Cellaring: Deliciously fresh and ready to enjoy right now, but possesses the excellent structure and drive to age gracefully in the cellar through 2038.
  • Food Pairing: Pairs wonderfully with freshly shucked oysters, kingfish ceviche, pan-seared white fish, or spicy Southeast Asian salads.

This exceptional white wine represents a seamless continuation of John Vickery's legacy, delivering all the bright, crunchy, high-altitude Eden Valley freshness and uncompromised craftsmanship that established his global reputation.

The 2024 vintage was dry throughout the growing and ripening season which accelerated ripening and as a result we had an early harvest, achieving full fruit expression at a lower baumé, with balanced natural acidity it’s a great example of Riesling’s purity. After being harvested from the Mason and Schubert family vineyards, the grapes were processed immediately to avoid extended skin contact.

As is the Vickery way, winemaker Keeda Zilm also incorporated pressing-material in the final blend to add flavour and texture to the wine. The pressings cut is taken a lot earlier than normal to retain flavour without extracting bitter phenolics. The blend was fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel to maintain freshness.

This is a cracker. A high-tensile, limey ride; a wine that is bone-dry, vivid and possesses all the velocity and verve that you expect. Pristine lime and green apple notes, subtle jasmine and Christmas lily with hints of crushed quartz and distant herbs, but it's all about that minerally cadence and precision. Super drinking.

Intensity of flavour here is excellent. Lime, bath salts and talc with a distinct minerally edge, the finish then carrying that extra spark of rock-on-rock.This is juicy. This is long-flavoured. This will develop slowly and well.

Vickery Wines

If there is one name synonymous with Australian Riesling, it is John Vickery. Beginning with the iconic Leo Buring Riesling in 1955, John helped redefine Australian Riesling, championing the potential of Eden Valley and Watervale to produce dry wines of purity, longevity and strong regional character. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, he pioneered many of the techniques now fundamental to premium Riesling production, including cool fermentation, gentle fruit handling and the early adoption of screw caps.

Today, Vickery Wines continues that remarkable legacy in partnership with winemaker Phil Lehmann, sourcing fruit from exceptional vineyards across Eden Valley and Watervale. The result is a collection of Rieslings that reflect John's lifetime of knowledge, precision and uncompromising pursuit of quality — recognised by more than 50 trophies and 400 gold medals throughout his career.
