Kalleske - Rosina Rosé

The Kalleske family has been farming and growing grapes in the Barossa Valley since 1853, near the village of Greenock. With seven generations of experience, they are among the region’s most respected growers, with fruit also selected for iconic wines such as Penfolds Grange.

In 2002, brothers Troy and Tony Kalleske established the Kalleske winery, now fully certified organic and biodynamic. Their philosophy is centred on caring for and improving the land for future generations, a commitment that has earned them recognition as one of Australia’s leading organic producers.

Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a strong reputation for crafting high-quality, site-driven wines, consistently recognised with a 5-star rating from James Halliday.

The Rosina Rosé is a vibrant expression—bright, aromatic, and fruit-driven, with a fresh, lively finish that makes it effortlessly enjoyable.

Vintage 2020 has delivered wines of amazing quality. However, quantity is very limited, with it being one of the lowest grape yields ever in the Barossa at around 50% of average. Yields were dire due to a combination of early mild frost conditions, then a notably windy period (45% windier) around flowering leading to poor set (not many berries) followed by some hot days in November and an overall dry growing season (34% down). Notably, quality is of the highest echelon with intense and balanced flavours.

2020 Rosina is an attractive pink diamond colour. The aroma is exotic. Alluring and bright, strikingly engaging, it signals quality. Strawberries and cream dominate along with heirloom rose petals and musk.

The brightness continues to the vividly fresh palate. It is juicy but flavoursome. Crunchy toffee apple is met with watermelon. Perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness restrained by natural fruity acidity. The finish is dry, long and radiating.

Very drinkable and totally inviting, this fine rosé is best enjoyed now.

James Suckling: Highlighted the vibrant strawberry and raspberry nose of the Grenache-dominant blend, noting a palate that delivers subtle fruit sweetness while drinking dry.

Campbell Mattinson (The Winefront): Awarded the wine 91 points, describing it as "both fragrant and tasty" with heightened raspberry and sweet spice characters providing refreshing and delicious drinking.

Aaron Brasher (The Real Review): Noted the pretty aromas of redcurrant, strawberry, and soft spice, praising the fleshy red fruit palate balanced by crisp, crunchy acidity for a dry, savory finish.

Kalleske

The Kalleske family have been farming the land near the Barossa Valley village of Greenock since 1853 — making them one of the region's most deeply rooted grape-growing families. Their reputation as growers is such that they were among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange, one of the world's most celebrated wines.

In 2002, seventh-generation brothers Troy and Tony took the next step — establishing the Kalleske winery and earning certification as both an organic and biodynamic producer. Their philosophy is one of genuine stewardship: not simply maintaining the land, but actively improving it for the generations that will follow.

Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a swift and well-deserved reputation for handcrafted wines of exceptional quality — the natural expression of over 170 years of farming the same Barossa soil.

"Among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange — a testament to over 170 years of Barossa farming."
