The Kalleske Fordson Zinfandel is a full-bodied, rich, and highly distinctive red wine from the Barossa Valley, South Australia, crafted from certified organic and biodynamic estate vineyards to showcase a rare, incredibly flavor-packed expression of this classic variety.

  • Aromas: The nose is intensely aromatic and exotic, bursting with sweet raspberry jam, dried figs, and dark cherry, alongside complex notes of clove spice, fruitcake, and dark chocolate.
  • Palate: The palate is plush, warm, and incredibly generous, packed with layers of sweet stewed plums, raisins, and cinnamon, balanced by an intrinsically soft texture and fine, velvety tannins.
  • Style: This is a bold, opulent, and unashamedly rich wine that embraces the naturally high alcohol and fruit sweetness of Zinfandel, trading light acidity for a smooth, warming finish.
  • Winemaking: Sourced from a single block planted in 1999, the fruit is wild-fermented in open top fermenters before being basket-pressed and matured for roughly a year in older, seasoned oak to protect the intense varietal fruit.
  • Cellaring: It is wonderfully decadent and ready to enjoy right now for its immediate sweet fruit power, but it has the density to cellar comfortably over the next 3 to 7 years.
  • Food Pairing: It pairs exceptionally well with rich, sticky, or charred foods like slow-cooked smoky BBQ pork ribs, sticky glazed brisket, roasted game, or a mature hard cheese platter.

This is a seriously fun, big-flavored bottle of wine that doesn't hold anything back. It gives you all the warming, jammy fruit and exotic sweet spice you want from a top-tier Zinfandel. It is the ultimate bottle to crack open for a serious American-style backyard barbecue or to share at the end of a long dinner night with a good cheese board.

A deep crimson, medium-to-full-bodied organic red wine. It offers vibrant aromas of blackberry jam, clove spice, Christmas cake, and red liquorice, balanced by a juicy palate of succulent berry fruits, fine tannins, and subtle oak.

“Single-vineyard zinfandel from the Kalleske property in the Western Barossa; matured in seasoned hogsheads for 12 months. Crimson in the glass with aromas of spice-dredged blackberry and back cherry fruits cut with hints of kirsch, crème de cassis, turned earth, coconut rough, vanillin oak and berry flan. Full bodied, plush black fruits, fruitcake spices, a sandy tannin frame and pleasing balance for all its heft..”

James Suckling - 89

Aromas of wild herbs, raspberries and blueberries, as well as violets and orange rind. Some spicy elements, too. The palate has a sweetly rich delivery of ripe red-plum and biscuit-spice flavors. Soft, rich and ripe plum and teacake finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.

Kalleske

The Kalleske family have been farming the land near the Barossa Valley village of Greenock since 1853 — making them one of the region's most deeply rooted grape-growing families. Their reputation as growers is such that they were among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange, one of the world's most celebrated wines.

In 2002, seventh-generation brothers Troy and Tony took the next step — establishing the Kalleske winery and earning certification as both an organic and biodynamic producer. Their philosophy is one of genuine stewardship: not simply maintaining the land, but actively improving it for the generations that will follow.

Since their first release in 2004, Kalleske has built a swift and well-deserved reputation for handcrafted wines of exceptional quality — the natural expression of over 170 years of farming the same Barossa soil.

"Among the select few chosen to supply fruit for Penfolds Grange — a testament to over 170 years of Barossa farming."
